Hello all.  Through the years, I've owned five dogs.  There was Hendrix (a husky mix, quite a story about how I got him), Sweet Pea (pure beige Labrador; very smart-she was given to me by a dear friend), Robbie (a beagle whom I inherited from my husband's mother), Coco (my chocolate lab, he was super smart and ended up with my ex.), and Coyote (my chocolate lab-ended up giving him to my husband's mom, who in turn gave him to someone else)Each of them were special in their own way and of course each had a piece of my heart and each resided with me at different times. Sweet Pea was the boss of the yard, it was her way or the highway.  For example, one day I gave them all a chew bone.  Understand, Hendrix was on a chain because he tended to wander off.  Just as I gave Hendrix his bone, Sweet Pea rushed over and snatched it away and put it down just out of reach of Hendrix's chain.  I don't know what Hendrix did, but Sweet Pea was definitely taking some revenge.  Hendrix was choking his self, straining at his chain trying to reach that bone.  Sweet Pea gave me a "who asked you to butt in" look, when I put the bone within his reach.  She really was that smart.  One day I reversed their food, putting the wet mix on the bottom and dry nuggets on top.  They all took a sniff and two seconds later Robbie and Hendrix dove in.  Not so Miss Sweet Pea, she took a paw and pushed all the dry dog food to the side and started eating the wet stuff first.  Another time, I was walking around the yard and all of a sudden she stood in front of me and wouldn't let me pass her and barked and barked.  I couldn't figure out why she did it until I took a closer look in front of her.  Well blended into the grass was a snake which I would have stepped on if she had not warned me.  I have many wonderful, and not so wonderful memories of my time with each of them.  I'm signing off for now, I could write more but I did work in the garden today and my body is letting me know it.
